CANON 50MM F/2.5 COMPACT MACRO PART 1

It’s been sometime now since i’ve done some sort of review or even given an opinion on something, but tonight is the night.  Just recently, I sadly parted ways with my Canon 100mm F/2.8 Macro. It was an amazing lens, but I found that I wasn’t needing to shoot that close to things, but it was always nice to have around. For my particular style, I wanted to shoot things closely, but some how still be able to pickup things in the background.  The Canon 100mm F/2.8 Macro produced amazing images, but you would need to shoot most of the time at 1600 iso, because generally the getting ready rooms are dark.  Yes, I know you can use flash, but I just like the look of natural light.  In addition, I found the Canon 100mm F/2.8 Macro difficult to hand hold, maybe it’s just me. Again it’s a trade off for nailing an awesome shot. I felt there had to be an alternative.

In comes my new Canon 50mm f/2.5 macro. I have had it for only 1 day, but I plan on using it at a wedding tomorrow. So far here is what I noticed. Hand holding is really easy, yes it buzzes like crazy! It nails focus a lot more accurately than the Canon 100mm F/2.8 Macro, and so far I love the image quality. I will be doing another follow up review on a real wedding shortly.

For the price, you can’t beat it and I would definitely recommend this to anyone. I picked mine up at Amazon since they offer free shipping and the price is better than most places. If you’re thinking of getting one, please visit my Amazon aStore and you can order one there.

This is what it looks like. I know kinda funny huh?

This shot is “STRAIGHT OUT OF THE CAMERA” – Canon 5D – 800 iso – f/2.5 – 1/80 – flash bounced off of back wall.

Jill - LoL…I read other blogs about how loud the motor is for the 50mm macro. I guess it really is.

kymberli q. - Hmmm…I have the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro and like you, I hardly use it. I’d hate to part ways with it though…what to do.
