IN THE NOW WEDDINGS

If you’re in search for a talented wedding & event coordinator, look no further! Amanda Auer and her team at In The Now Weddings are the ones you’ve been looking for! I’ve worked with Amanda on a wedding this past summer and I must say from personal experience, that I can’t stop raving about Amanda and her team. No matter how the day is going, she always has things under control and that’s why Amanda is on my preferred list of vendors. This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to take some fun photos of Amanda and her team. We had such a great time that day and the team made sure we never had a dull moment during the shoot. Make sure you checkout Amanda’s blog for what’s going on in her world and ideas for your wedding. Here are just a few of my favorites from the shoot.

Standing in the middle is Amanda in the purple “LOVE” shirt and her husband Josh.

FAMILY SESSION IN IRVINE

This past weekend I had a chance to hangout with Bich & Blake which I shot their wedding this past summer. I was so excited to shoot their family session down in Irvine Park and I really got to hangout with their son Bradley and watch them all just being a family. Here’s just a few of my favorites.

BACK TO CONNECTICUT & A SPECIAL HOLIDAY PROMO

Well it’s official, Helen and I have booked our flight back to Connecticut for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We’re really looking forward to meeting up with some friends and family, feeling cold and drinking hot cocoa. We will be back from November 19th till December 3rd and I was thinking that since our holiday promo on family, engagement and maternity sessions here in California was such a hit, we’re going to be offering it to our Connecticut, Boston and New York clients as well since we’ll be traveling there.

Since we’ll only be there for 2 weeks, we’re offering this with limit spots available. So, if you’re interested in taking some fun photos and hanging out with me, please send me an email to: brian@briankhang.com or click on the connect tab up top to send me an email. Our promo sessions start at only $195 and all sessions include, prints, your photos on a private online gallery, digital negatives on DVD and much more. Please contact me for more information.

And for my California clients, I haven’t forgotten about you either. When we return, we’ll be extending our promo sessions for the remaining days in December. So please contact me as soon as possible to reserve your day. Happy travels to me and I’ll see my Happy Nutmegger’s soon!

THE FOX FAMILY

There is something about the word family that brings a smile to my face. Especially when I see grandparents playing with their grandkids, there’s nothing better than that. I was so excited when the Fox family asked me to shoot their family photos, since they were having a get together here in California and they all haven’t been together in 4 years! Again, this family session really hits home with me since my family is really far away now, it’s great to just be around a happy family. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

Here are just some of the boys that managed to get up on the fence.

Kids, bless their hearts, but it was really hard to get 10 kids to sit still for one photo. We did our best and I kinda like that they were all looking in different directions.

Near the end of the day, some still had a lot of energy and some were just plain tired and fell asleep.

To be a kid again…

The entire Fox family. I loved how they all coordinated their colors and checkout some fall foliage?

All 7 boys got together for a photo on top of the train on the playground. Not the most safest spot, but we had the parents on backup just incase.

The grandparents with all the grandkids. We had to trick them to sit and wait for the group to get this photo. It’s so great and funny how the kids were all doing something different.

SNEAK PEEK SUNDAY : JESSE & LISA’S WEDDING & THE FOX FAMILY SESSION

Don’t you just hate sneak peeks? I think they’re so wrong, but so good at the same time. I had a really fun weekend and I just wanted to share with you all a photo from Jesse & Lisa’s wedding that took place on Saturday and the Fox family session that took place today. I’ll probably be blogging the complete photos in the days to come, but for now, here is the sneak peek.

The day was so perfect and the lighting was amazing.

These were only half of the kids! Just wait till you see rest of the cute bunch.

INTRODUCING RAFFAELLA

You all might have remembered my good friends Kay & Steve who’s maternity session I shoot back in June of this year. Well about a month ago, they welcomed a new little one to the family. Meet Raffaella. I almost feel this “life cycle” phenomenon happening, only because Kay and I knew each other back when we were little kids and now she has her own little one. This past Sunday Helen and I came to visit the new happy family.

What started with the first image below, inspired the rest of the photos. Kay really wanted that grainy look of film for that particular shot of her and Raffaella in bed. After I edited that photo, a thought came to me. I really wanted to show the images as they were, which meant NO SHARPENING, NO ADDED CONTRAST, NO ADDED PHOTOSHOP EFFECTS. The only thing done to the images was just brightening the photos and adding a film grain to it. The in camera black & whites were just edited with a faint tone to give it a different feel and I also added grain. I know it feels kind of backwards shooting with digital and making it look like film, which was my intentions, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Even in digital, it’s pretty hard to replicate that look of film, but I did my best and I love the results.

In addition, I wanted to challenge myself and shoot everything knowing that I wouldn’t edit the photos as much as I normally do and have the photos speak more than my editing skills in photoshop. I call it a breath of fresh air, but let me know what you think.

WAYNE TOSHIKAZU

There’s nothing greater than having some fresh new photos of myself to put on my blog or anywhere I want people to connect my face to my branding. It’s always exciting to meet up with some other photographers and shoot each other for fun. For me in this case on Sunday, I was still a bit tired from the wedding the night before down in San Diego, so I just shot Wayne by himself.

Wayne Toshikazu is also a photographer from Orange County and we met back in August at David Jay’s “Free to Succeed Tour” in LA. A few weeks ago Wayne contacted me and asked if I could shoot some new headshots for him. I’m always honored when another photographer asks me to shoot them, but at the same time I’m not sure if I’m scared to mess up or if they will be critical of my shots. I had to push those terrible thoughts aside and just pretend like I’m just shooting another one of my clients that hired me to do what I love to do.

Overall, Wayne was such a natural in front of the camera and I know he’s reading this right now and laughing because he told me it feels different to be on the other side of the camera.  We headed down to The Lab for Wayne’s headshots and we cranked it out in under 30 minutes! Here are a few of my favorite shots of Wayne and I’m really excited to see which one’s he will use on his blog.

Yes, I can rock the “Black & White” from time to time and Wayne couldn’t decide if he wanted glasses on or off, so I just said we’ll do both.

MIENG & SANDY

On my days off, I really love getting together with friends or just going out by myself to just do some shooting for fun. I actually do shoot everyday for an hour or even half an hour just to practice. Especially now since we’re in the busy season of weddings, it’s great to just go out, shoot and maybe come up with new and fresh ideas. I think it really keeps you grounded and appreciate why we love doing what we do. On Sunday, we met up with our friends Mieng & Sandy just to do some fun shooting. It’s been awhile also since i’ve really shot RAW and since technology has gotten so much better, I decided to try out RAW the whole day. On this day I really aimed at finding great light to shoot in. I think it’s best to break down your time to focus on certain aspects of photography. Probably for the next time out, I’ll focus more on composition. Here are a few of my favorite shots of Mieng & Sandy.
